Dragon Boat

Dragon boating is easy to learn, very safe and a sport where men and women practice and race together. Dragon boating provides an inclusive and unbiased environment for all ages and fitness levels. Once a paddler is in stroke, he or she is helping the team!

Dragon boating at Cascades has something to offer everyone, whether you’re interested in a recreational paddle once a week, or to compete at the highest level. Come and enjoy fun, fitness and friendship on the beautiful Gatineau River.

Want to try your hand at a new sport? Need an excuse to get out and enjoy the winter in Ottawa? Sign up now to be part of Cascades’ Ice Dragon Boat teams! No experience necessary but be ready for a whole lot of fun! Take a look at this video to see what to expect: Ice Dragon Boat

The races take place Feb 10th on the Rideau Canal at Dow’s Lake. See www.icedragonboat.ca for more details about the event.

Your registration to Cascades Ice DB teams costs $100 and includes:

  • a training session (and brunch) in January (date TBD) at Cascades to help you get to know your team and give our teams a head start at preparing for race day.
  • on-site training the day before (Friday Feb 9th)
  • the Race Day (Sat Feb 10th)

Casc_WomenCascades WomenHigh performance women’s team

This team is committed to excellence in sport, team, fitness and community. Practice on the water four times a week, dryland training in the off-season, pool paddle once a week in the off- season, participate in local, national and international competitions. The team currently has a full roster, but is always interested in speaking with women who are boat-ready to race.

New Cascades Mixed Team


Cascades Fire and the Water Buffaloes are joining forces to create a mixed team for the remainder of the summer. We will be practicing twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:45 (arrive for 6:30). We welcome new and experienced paddlers. Cost will be $120 for the season (2 x week) or $80 (1 x week.) Drop-ins are also welcome for $10 an evening. We will focus on technique and getting a good workout. Depending on interest, the team will consider attending a couple of regattas later in the summer. Those fees will be extra.

 



 River Spirits – Recreational womens crewCasc_Spirits_300

Join River Spirits and experience the joys of paddling with a team of strong women. Practice once per week during the summer season (Late May-early Sept.), Thursday nights 7:00-8:00 p.m. Optional local regatta in the summer. Come and enjoy paddling on the beautiful Gatineau river! No paddling experience necessary.

River Ravens – Recreational senior womens crewRavens_2014_04

River Ravens is a recreational team of women, many of whom are over the age of 50. Join us and learn proper paddling technique in a relaxed atmosphere on a beautiful river. Practices are Fridays at 5:45-6:45 pm (Late May to early-September)..

DragonFlies –Mixed gender recreational crewGragonflies

Our dragonflies boat is now full. Please email dragoncascades@gmail.com if you are interested in creating another recreational mixed boat.

Looking for a crew of enthusiastic paddlers to join this team!  Join the Dragonflies and learn the sport of dragon boating in a fun atmosphere with a friendly group of people on the beautiful Gatineau River. Practice 1x week (Late May – early Sept). No paddling experience necessary! Practices are on Tuesdays 7:00-8:00 p.m.

The following is a list of fees for the 2015 season.   In calculating your fees, please note that there is a boat charge as well as a coach charge. Also, you may choose to hire and pay your coach separately. The rates apply to Cascades Club teams unless otherwise specified.
